Auf der – nicht unumstrittenen – Lindauer Tagung für „Wirtschaftsnobelpreisträger“ hat Joseph Stiglitz – einer der Auserkorenen – grundsätzliche Kritik am gegenwärtigen Kapitalismus geäußert. Nicht zuletzt die Lektüre von Thomas Pikettys Buch hätte ihm dies deutlich gemacht:

Er stellt fest dass trotz steigender Produktivität und steigender Vermögenswerte die Realität für viele Bürger – insbesondere, aber nicht nur, in den USA – die Stagnation von Einkommen sei.
Trickle down economics is not working. (…) Any economic system that does not deliver for very large groups in the population, that does not deliver to a majority of citizens, is an economic system that is failing. And certainly capitalism in America – and this is true in many other countries – is in these terms failing.
